ABOUT BLUE ZONES

The blue zones are the areas of the world where people live the longest, having registered the highest concentration of centenarians. The original blue zones hotspots are in Sardinia, Italy; Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica; Okinawa, Japan; Loma Linda, California; and Ikaria, Greece.

After identifying these areas, teams of scientists were taken to each location to study lifestyle characteristics that might explain these extraordinary longevity patterns. They discovered that across blue zones populations, the same cluster of habits exists that nudge people to do the right things in the long run.

    *The retreat price excludes accomodation. This retreat has a maximum capacity, thus confirmed retreat participants will have a 50% non-refundable deposit on the retreat package on April 25, 2024 (60 days prior) and the remaining balance due will be charged on May 25, 2024 (30 days prior).  Both deposits are non-refundable.

    BLUE ZONES INTRODUCTION/THE JOURNEY BEGINS

    Dive into the fascinating story of the blue zones, how it all started and what drove the study of the longest-lived people on the planet. Each blue zones hotspot is located in a totally different environment, while sharing similar core principles and values, which are the foundation to their healthy ageing patterns. Fall in love with each destination and embrace the wisdom of their people through the Power 9 principles, while hearing their stories and secrets.

    HAPPINESS WORKSHOP

    Dan Buettner’s research on longevity led him to explore the correlated topic of happiness, highlighting that health and happiness go hand in hand. Each definition of happiness takes different facets and can evolve over time, with values and personal and professional goals coming into play. Leaning on leading scientific research and findings from the “Blue Zones of Happiness”, you will be guided into shaping your own definition of happiness and learn how to improve your environment to maximize it for well-being. We will shed light on the happiness building blocks of deep and meaningful relationships, purposeful actions, and taking pride in what you do and who you are.

    RIGHT OUTLOOK WORKSHOP

    Stress has been identified as having a significant impact on longevity, as it leads to chronic inflammation and disease. The daily routine of blue zones centenarians includes habits that help them regulate their stress levels while improving their health and well-being. They move daily in a natural way, while also making time for downshifting. Take the Blue Zones True Vitality Test™ to assess where your routine lays when it comes to movement, downshifting, eating, and relationships, and start to adjust your mindset to reshape your lifestyle with the right outlook.

    PURPOSE WORKSHOP

    The Okinawans call it “ikigai” and the Nicoyans “plan de vida”. For both, it translates to “why I wake up in the morning”. Purpose is an active expression of our values and our compassion for others. It makes us want to get up in the morning and add value to the world. Integrate it into everything you do. Associating the Blue Zones research with the work of author Richard J. Leider on “The Power of Purpose”, you will learn how to articulate your purpose to find meaning in your life, giving you the will to live well and long.

    CONNECT WORKSHOP

    We are social beings and studies have shown that a strong social network and sense of belonging adds more good years to your life. Families, partners, and children play a vital role in the well-being of those living in blue zones areas. In Okinawa, Japan, “moais” (groups of friends committed to each other for life) are formed at a young age and create a social support system that endures the test of time. Being surrounded with the right tribe not only cheers you up during hard times, but also encourages you to be the best version of yourself and lifts you up. In today’s world, where physical distance often separates us from our loved ones, it’s crucial to understand how to prioritize these relationships and why doing so is essential, while recognizing the importance of including oneself in the circle of loved ones.

    BLUE ZONES GAME NIGHT

    A fun and playful way to test your knowledge of the blue zones locations and how attentive you were during each workshop. It is also an opportunity to connect with your peers, activate your brain, and reflect on a retreat full of powerful and insightful content. Get your competitive self out and don’t forget to bring your fair-play mindset, you will need them to go through the range of games designed for you by the Blue Zones team.

    BLUE ZONES WRAP-UP/THE JOURNEY CONTINUES

    It is time to say farewell during the last workshop of the Blue Zones Retreat. You will be invited to share takeaways, “aha” moments, and feedback with the group, while reflecting on the things that you want to take home and implement in your daily life. It will also be the time to exchange contact information and commit to staying connected and supportive of each other in your well-being journeys back home.
