“Good education breaks any barrier and eradicates the misery of the peoples”
– Elsa Bonilla, Creciendo Juntos
Andaz Costa Rica Resort at Peninsula Papagayo is very proud to partner with Creciendo Juntos (Growing Together), a nonprofit organization that has changed the lives of thousands of children and families in Guanacaste for 20 years.
Supporting the objectives of Growing Together, this alliance seeks to promote the integral development of children and young people from 19 neighboring communities, including 21 educational centers, the association’s preventive medicine clinic and hundreds of families living in conditions of poverty and extreme poverty.
Since its opening, Andaz has promoted various programs that have contributed to the well-being of these communities. Currently, due to the global pandemic, we have adapted these programs to focus on meeting the basic needs of these communities that have been greatly affected.
How to contribute?
Basket of Groceries
The first need of these families is food every day. Due to the pandemic, thousands of families in the area lost their daily livelihood, bringing hunger to their homes.
Through this program, you will be able to donate a food basket to a family of around 4 people with what is necessary for their care for 15 days. The basket includes: items likes rice, beans, sugar, tuna, coffee, powder milk, spaghetti, tomato sauce for pasta, salt, oatmeal, oil, salted cookies, sweet cookies, soup, toilet paper, soap, detergent, toothpaste, dish soap, among others.
Cost: $60 per basket
Children in our country are not attending classes due to the pandemic. Many receive their classes virtually, however this is not the reality for many children in our neighboring communities who do not have access to the internet, a device to connect, or any of the above. To ensure that these children do not interrupt their education, it is vital to provide them with textbooks.
This package includes a book for four core subjects: math, science, social studies, and spanish.
Cost: $15 per package
Backpack for school
Some of the families living in the communities surrounding Peninsula struggle to send kids to school due to the cost of school supplies. You can can contribute to the education of our young ones with a backpack.
If you want to bring one from home, please include: backpack, 6 notebooks, pouch bag, pencils, color pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener, ruler, glue, rounded point scissors, white paper and color paper.
You can also make a donation and we buy the backpack for you.
Cost: $80 per backpack, or bring your own.
Creciendo Juntos, taught ten families El Triunfo a nearby town how to till the land and create gardens in their own backyards, as a solution to face the adversity that came with the pandemic.
During this experience, you will be able to visit up to 3 families, who will open their doors warmly and with our signature tico smile. With your own hands, you will harvest some of the vegetables that our chef will use to prepare a magical dinner for you and your family. The menu will be totally personalized based on your preferences and the fresh produce harvested in the morning.
